 "Don't Take Me For Granite"

Oil on canvas

As I painted these beach rocks the phrase ,"Don't take me for Granite" came to me . It was as if the beautiul black with white striped rocks were standing out , not wanting to be mistaken as just the common granite stones. When I was a child we called the striped beach rocks "wishing stones" . After making a wish on them we would toss them as far into the ocean as we could believing that as long as no one else picked them up and did the same , our wish would come true.

"Junco in My Tree "

8 x 8

Oil on canvas

I have a little crab apple tree outside my Kitchen window that provides food and sanctuary for many birds all year round. . I leave most the fruit for the birds, that wait until  late winter or early spring when the frost soften the apples to the perfect degree, when they can be easily plucked and eaten by the Juncos and Robins. Then when spring brings the leaves and blossoms it becomes a great hiding or resting place for many birds.
